Jack Benny Stamp

Well! You know, it's not like legendary comedian Jack Benny, one of our personal faves here at the Library, has never had his face on a postage stamp before. It isn't as though the federal government has failed to pay homage to the star of stage, screen, radio, television and concert halls (as well as a nifty cartoon!) in the past. In fact, as you can see, even OTHER federal governments have chosen jack to adorn their stamps. The point is that this upcoming stamp will be 39 cents and 39 is a number that will forever be associated with Jack Benny as Jack, in spite of all the odds, was perennially 39 years old. In one famous radio episode, Jack is finally about to turn 40 when it's found that there's been a mistake with his birth certificate and he's actually turning...39!
Benny flagbearer Laura Leff of the International Jack Benny Fan Club is spearheading the drive to get the US government to honor Jack in the logical place: on the new 39 cent stamp. Here's your chance to be a part of history and help convince the government that this is the most logical thing to do! Sign Laura's petition on her site and you'll see that we can make a difference. Oh, and Jack would be pleased. It won't cost you a dime!
