The Two Faces of Superman # 175

The practice of multiple alternate comic book covers is standard (albeit evil imho) these days but back in the olden days if they had more than one for whatever reason, the editor would be forced to choose! Here's a rare DC example from the early 1960's. The one on the left is the released version of SUPERMAN # 175 and the one on the right is an earlier, discarded version of same as printed in a contemporary 80 PAGE GIANT.

  1. Curtis Swan?

I wonder if that was one of the first time that Swan's name appeared in a Superman comic. Credits weren't standard on those until a few years later, and unlike some other artists I don't think I've seen examples of Swan signing his work in the 1950s or 1960s. I haven't seen enough originals of that stuff to know if creators were mentioned in letter columns or features like this very often, but I don't think they were.

i guess if an investigative reporter like lois could never tell clark was superman because of the glasses, she wouldnt notice lex's bald head if he had on clark's hat either...
